Pastor Marcellus P. Howard
It was a cold Thursday morning, February 20th 1958, at 9:53 am in the Mount Sinai Hospital, located in Hartford Connecticut where Elder Marcellus Perry Howard entered the world. He was born to loving parents, the late Johnny and Mary Lee Perry Howard, and a family that included brothers Martin Luther Howard and Norris Delano Howard.
The first seventeen years of Elder Howard’s life were spent in the great Northeast, living on Earle Street in the North end of Hartford. He sporadically attended the historic Faith Seventh-day Adventist Church and the legendary Mount Calvary Missionary Baptist Church.
Johnny and Mary Howard decided to relocate their family to Albany Georgia in the summer of 1975, After Johnny Howard retired from Pratt and Whitney Aircraft. Elder Howard likes to say, he is a “northerner by birth but a southerner by the grace of God”.
The teenage years for Elder Howard proved to be trying and confusing. He strayed away from the training of his home seeking the company of so called friends and associates. When he reflects on the antics of his youth he begins a praise of thanksgiving to be alive, clothed, and in his right mind. In spite of his defiance, and rebellious spirit, God protected and covered him. And He preserved him for the calling on which he was soon to be conferred.
In the Spring of 1976 Elder Howard was introduced to a young intern who was a recent graduate of Oakwood College and assigned to Emmanuel Seventh-day Adventist Church in the Albany Georgia District. It was transformational. The relationship with Elder C. B. Preston marked in him a steady change in activities and behaviors.
After Graduating from Monroe High School in 1977 Elder Howard plotted a course that included Oakwood College, now Oakwood University. He is a graduate of Oakwood College.
On July 7, 1981, Elder R. B. Hairston then President of the South Atlantic Conference extended to him a call to serve in the South Atlantic Conference. This ministry spanning 35 years across seventeen congregations and four Regional Conferences. South Central, Central States and the Southeastern Conferences of Seventh-day Adventist.
During his ministry, the Lord has blessed Elder Howard to baptize souls for the Kingdom of God, all across America, and in New Zealand, Kenya, England, and the Bahamas.
God’s favor allowed him to build two new edifices, purchase land, renovate existing sanctuaries, liquidate mortgages. Birth two new congregations and one company, and establish one school. He also was selected as a member of the Executive Committee of every Conference in which he served.
Elder Howard is the very proud father of three outstanding young men. Marcellus Brandon (Jimica), Matthew Bradley and Marcus Bryant. On August 9, 2013, his first grand Miss Ava Lily Howard was born. Needless to say, she runs the family.
Elder Howard is here to serve. He comes ready and willing to carry out the will of our Father in heaven. He solicits the prayers of each blood bought member for God’s anointing to be faithful in getting the task done until he is called to lay down the weapons of his warfare.
